KY mortgage loan originators are required to take 12 hours of continuing education by December 31 of each year. On an annual basis, the SAFE Act calls for Kentucky state-licensed MLOs to complete:
3 hours of Federal law and regulations;
2 hours of ethics that shall include lessons on fraud, consumer protection, and fair lending challenges;
2 hours of lessons associated with lending standards for the nontraditional mortgage product market;
1 hour of courses in an unspecified mortgage topic and
4 hours of training covering KY mortgage laws (KRS 286.8 and KRS 360.100) every other year, otherwise
4 hours of training on topics approved by NMLS, if not required to complete the 4 hours of KY law that year
Please Note: Carryover hours from previous licensing years is no longer acceptable.
KENTUCKY PRELICENSING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS In order to meet pre-licensure continuing education requirements state-licensed MLOs must complete 20 hours of NMLS approved education which include the following:
a. 3 hours of Federal law and regulations; b. 3 hours of ethics, this shall include instruction on fraud, consumer protection, and fair lending issues; c. 2 hours of training related to lending standards for the nontraditional mortgage product marketplace; and d. 12 hours of undefined instruction on mortgage origination.
Kentucky does not require any state specific pre-licensing education in addition to the above requirements for education.
